10 REASONS YOU NEED TO BE ON SUMMER STAFF
1. Great Ministry Experience
We give our summer staff a lot of responsibility and they rise to the challenge. What a great opportunity to do God's work on the front lines of ministry. Of course staff get a ton of training and support. And then they go. The hands and feet of Jesus.
2. Kids will inspire you as much as you inspire them
You go into summer thinking - how will God use me, how can I minister to these kids? Then throughout summer you find yourself inspired by the kids you are serving. As you pour out you get filled up.
3. For the Mems
No, not the memes, for the mems... memories. Shamineau designs activities and experiences to be unlike what you would normally encounter, mix that with a bunch of other fantastic people and you just produce some memories that last.
4. Make Life Long Friends
Its funny how a summer at camp seems to whip by, but when you look back it seems like soooo much happened. Its the acceleration of time. So much is packed in from the first day of training to the last day of summer camp, and when you experience that side by side with other staff, you get to be pretty great friends quickly. Those relationaships tend to last for decades. Its cool to see.
5. Unique Experiences
Safety is always a part of our process, but even so, we find ways to "plus" everything. Why just play spoons when you could play giant spoons on a slip n slide instead? The goal is to give campers an experience that they wouldn't have at home. As staff we get to join in the fun!
6. Grow as a person
All of life happens at camp, and what a great place to learn how to walk through good times and bad with biblical encouragenment and guidance. It would be really difficult to come away from summer without substantial personal growth. Both in every day life skills and spiritually.
7. Its fun!
Not everything is all fun and games, right? Well almost everything is or can be. We try to make everything fun. Even scrubbing toilets can be fun with the right attitude! Serving that way is also a great way to give thanks and praise to our Father!
8. Get outside
So creation is pretty great, right? That's why we try to take advantage of it so much. What a great setting for a devotion time... in the woods, under the stars, you name it. With about 230 acres of woods, lakeshore and an island, there are a lot of awesome spots to soak it in.
9. Help Kids grow in their faith
Its really something else to to see something finally click with a camper. As good as our staff is, the Holy Spirit is the one at work. But how great to see a kid make a decision that will last forever.
10. Unlike any other job
Its true, its possible to make more money doing something else for summer. We often have that conversation before summer with potential staff. Always... always after summer, they say it was so worth it. Its hard to put a price on the training and life experience gained, not to mention the kingdom work.
