5 THINGS YOU SHOULD DO WITH YOUR FAMILY THIS SUMMER

It's time to be making some summer plans if you haven't already.  I'm gonna give you some ideas to get you started.  Here we go.

5. TAKE A HIKE!  There are many great hikes just in Minnesota, probably even closer than you realize.  One of our favorites is Tettegouche Falls on the north shore.  Up there, everywhere you look there are great hiking trails.  Make sure to pack snacks or even a picnic.  Bring your camera and good hiking shoes.  And don't forget to wear layered clothes, otherwise you might end up sweating them out 15 minutes into it.  Make it an adventure, maybe even more than one this summer.

4. HIT THE LAKE  You might have to watch the forecast to catch the right day, but we will get plenty of hot and sunny ones this summer.  If you have a boat, you know what to do with it.  Grab the tube and anyone daring enough ride it.  If you can get a grill to the beach, that's always great.  Otherwise just build a fire if a spot is available and cook over it.  If dogs and burgers aren't your thing, maybe grab a couple campfire pie irons and make some grilled cheeses, make shift calzones or a desert pie.  Get some uplifting music playing on your phone or bluetooth speaker <could be your big chance to be a dj>.  This would also be a great time to invite friends or neighbors.  Don't forget the lawn chairs.

3. PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT  This one might take just a bit of set up work but is super cheap.  It could really be done anywhere.  It's pretty simple, just make a list, or find one on the google, of things to take a photo of.  A water tower, '57 Chevy, you at a garage sale... Maybe make it extra challenging or added points [for the competitive people] for things like adding in celebrity look a likes or photos taken in a reflection.  The options are endless.  You can either compete with another family or just complete as much of your list as you can in a given time.  If you want to "Shaminize" your experience, take a unique photo or two wearing Shamineau garb and post it on our Facebook page.  I will probably give our a prize or two to the office favorites.

2. EAT SOMEWHERE NEW  This could be eaters choice.  If you want to save some cash, pack your meal and go somewhere you simply haven't been.  Grill, fire, propane stove... it's all pretty easy.  Just find an area or spot (open to the public) you wanna visit and there you go!  The other option is to go to a restaurant that's new to you.  You never know, it could be your new favorite!  Especially in summer, everything cranks up so there should be more than enough options.  Eat up and have fun.

1. FAMILY CAMP  I couldn't possibly make a list like this without suggesting coming to camp!  We currently do five family camps, some are just weekends, which make it really easy for families with younger kids, or families that have a hard time breaking away for longer than a couple days.  We are finding that many families are bringing extended family and having a bit of a family reunion here.  I guess, why not?  We take care of the programming and provide more activities than you can do in a weekend.  They do fill fast so if you want to make it to one this year, you should probably get to it.  Here is a link if you want to check it out - shamineau.org/familycamps/  Feel free to come with all ages, we hope to see you here.

So that's just to get you started.  I'm sure you will come up with way more than that to do this summer.  Whatever you do, make it an adventure.  Not everything will go as planned, so prepare a little bit on the front end, roll with it and make some great memories together.
