CAMP UPDATE: END OF JULY 2018

What a busy but amazing summer it has been so far!  Each week all the summer staff gather before campers come to get ready for the week.  Every week one of the Program Directors asks "what week is it"?  Everyone yells "WEEK ONE"!  There is a reason for what may seem like bad math.  Each week is the camper's first week so the goal is to give them exactly that experience.  To keep up the energy through the last week like it was the first, and the staff is doing a great job at it.

There's been a lot going on recently.  Last week was week 6 of summer and was quite full with 420 campers between Trailblazer, Voyager, Cowpoke, Island Camp and Senior High Camp.  We also had full family camps the last two weekends, a community beach day and 60th anniversary the weekends before that.  As usual the summer is flying by but looking back, staff training seems like so long ago.

You have probably heard by now but a few weeks ago, we purchased 678 acres of adjacent property (North Ridge).  Still the number one question is, what are we going to do with it?  First, we have to pay for it.  I am continually amazed at how God provides through the generosity of people.  Just amazing.  So that is underway and doing well.  At the same time we are squeezing in a ton of kids each week and have started the process of a new four cabin building called Ironwood.  We haven't built anything yet but are raising funds which is also well underway.  We'll see how it goes, maybe it will be ready for next summer if the Lord sees fit.

With all that's going on, hundreds of kids and families are hearing the Gospel and many are responding.  That's why we do what we do!  At the end of every week we have a wrap up meeting and share what God did during the week.  At many of those meeting there are also summer staff that get baptized.  All of that is so refreshing and helps refocus just a bit.

These a great times at Shamineau, very fun to be a part of.  Keep praying!
