WE NEVER WANT TO TURN AWAY A CAMPER!

From Herb: Shamineau Ministries Executive Director
This last summer, support staff guys and support staff girls were housed in spots around camp that weren’t necessarily housing (meeting rooms with bunks affectionately called “The Orphanage” and “Man Storage”). This allowed us to open up more housing for campers, and even that wasn’t enough! We still couldn’t fit in all the campers that wanted to come.
Our plan is to build a new facility called Ironwood. Ironwood will have room for four cabins worth of campers (ten campers and two counselors per cabin group) with a really cool meeting loft for each cabin group and a separate bathroom and shower for each cabin group. This will give all sorts of new flexibility in housing and assist us in serving campers with some special needs.
The problem is, Ironwood will take a while to build and we don’t think we can get it ready for summer 2019, so… Ironwood will still happen, but we are squeezing in the building of four new cabins that can be completed by summer 2019! Two of the cabins will be across the commons area in front of Ponderosa and two of the cabins will be in line beyond Skyview Cabins, Maple and Walnut. Both locations have great views and are close to existing bathroom facilities.
The construction of these cabins will only take care of last year’s growth – Ironwood will still be needed. What will we do if there is more growth for the summer of 2019?... Well, I guess there’s always The Orphanage and Man Storage for another year.
We never want to turn away a camper, and it's an amazing blessing to be growing so fast that we need to build extra cabins. There is always a need for great volunteer help, if you are gifted in the area of construction or finishing and would like to help out, please contact us at shamineau@shamineau.org.
