GEARING UP FOR SUMMER

This post is from Lisa Anderson, our Assistant Program Director,

As I write this, I have to admit it is difficult to think about summer. This weekend we have a Winter Wipe Out and it is supposed to be a high of -1 with wind chills into the -30’s. That doesn’t mean that staff training doesn’t start in 140 days! Crazy!  We have been busy processing applications, interviewing and hiring staff. We are planning on camper
numbers to be up again which means we are in constant need of more staff. What a great “problem” to have!!! We have quite a few people hired (around 75) and more come in every day. It’s never too late! We hire more than 200 staff every summer.

I love summer and the busyness it brings. I miss having the staff around. We have the best staff in the world. They are so genuine, fun, exciting, and have a BIG love for God. As much as it seems every year that the staff get younger, I have realized I just get older.  They have an excitement and joy that only young people can bring! We as full-time staff remind ourselves of that all the time. It’s ok to trust and put camp into the hands of these amazing young staff. They are the ones that keep us COOL!!! (If that’s even a word this generation uses) Maybe I should have used Lit, Boss, Fresh, Thas Chill (yes I was told to
leave the T out), or Legit. The interns are feeding me these words. I’m trying to bring the word “mint” back!

I have the song “When we all get to Heaven” in my head. Most of you reading this will know that song. (If you are over the age of 35, which I am assuming most blog readers are???) It’s a fun reminder “When we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory!!!” That’s why we are here!!! Rejoice, sing, and shout because Jesus has that victory.

Side note: If you want some inspiration listen to Carman’s “The Champion”.  Have a wonderful day.
