IT'S A MAN'S WEEKEND
This weekend we will be hosting Overhaul, Man Weekend, or Men's Retreat... call it what you want. It will be about 300 guys from all walks of life hanging out, playing and fellowshipping together.
What you see here is a chapel game from last year. Side grinder pictionary. You gotta have some activities and games that make them grunt like "Tim the Tool Man", right? There will be a bunch of sports tournaments for some great healthy competition, an amazing shooting gallery with about every caliber of hand guns and rifles and just hanging out with an endless supply of coffee. One thing I (Jeremy / Ole Jer) like about this retreat is that I get to jump in and play with them, especially when someone needs a fourth for basketball or volleyball.
Another cool thing about this weekend is the wide variety of guys that come. It can be anywhere from super solid believers and even pastors to some that have never heard the Gospel before. That's really exciting when you think about it and there have been some pretty substantial growth in the lives of many in the past many years. So pray for that...
Joel Hanson will be with us again to lead music and Mark Widman is our speaker. They have been a great combo in the past and will do a fantastic job again. They were here 4 years ago when a pretty large event happened here. Our executive director Herb Bloomquist had a heart attack right there at the Dining Hall Sunday morning of Overhaul. That could only have been God's timing as there were a number of EMTs standing right there to help revive him (and did), along with a speedy intern to run up the hill to get an AED. Pretty cool story in some of those details as well! So Herb turns 4 this weekend! We are blessed to still have him as he made a full recovery and is going strong. The other part of that though, is that God really used that weekend to work in the lives of the guys who attended. Sometimes it takes an event like that close to you to evaluate where you are spiritually and decide to make some changes. We may never know all the impact that weekend had.
Anyway, we are looking forward to another great weekend. Please keep us in prayer for safety and that God will do mighty things.
