ONE WAY WE CONTINUE TO IMPROVE
As much as our staff is awesome and great at what they do, we always want to improve how we do camp. One of the ways we do that is attend a conference each year where camp staff from all over the surrounding states gather. We have a bunch of seminars, general sessions and times just to get together and share ideas. That just happened earlier this week so we are organizing a couple thoughts to make some improvements.
I got to sit with a camping friend who happens to do time lapses really well. We sat and "nerd talked" about cameras, settings and which way to best catch the Milky Way in early summer. It's always a challenge to find 3-4 hours that I can commit to a time lapse, but I am determined to capture a couple this year so look forward to that I guess...
Some other seminars offered covered topics from how to interact with your guest groups better, to how to run a wood miser. Both of which we will probably put to good use some day. One evening we got to listen to an improv comedy team, Mike and Nate, and they were very funny. It's good to just laugh.
So our section, the Minne-dakotas, has always been really good at helping each other and sharing information. Apparently that's not the same in all parts of the country... Many years ago a bunch of us realized that we are all doing the same thing for the same goal, we just do it differently, so we share ideas and materials to help make each other better. Do I want all the kids in MN to come to Shamineau? Well yah, but if they don't, I want them to go to A camp. And that has been the heart of camp staff across the state... Good stuff. So anyway, that's one way we learn and continue to do what we do a bit better!
