MAKING ROOM FOR SUMMER!
Above are the latest editions to our cabin lineup. Jack Pine and White Pine overlook the Low
Ropes Course, straight out front of Ponderosa.
Our facilities crew hasn’t been at these for long but they are just
about finished. They have been
cruising! We have also had some
fantastic volunteer help which not only makes the project go faster, it’s also
an encouragement to our staff.
We have been consistently about 450 summer camp registrations
ahead of last year, so we will need the space.
Our registrar, Sandy, is constantly shifting things around to get the
most kids in possible while putting them with similar ages and things like
that. Family camp is about 100 ahead of
where we ended last year, so everything from here on is growth!
We also have two other cabins that we will be building,
hopefully able to be in use for summer.
It’s a pretty large task but I think our facilities crew is up for
it. It really is amazing how quickly they
are able to put them up! These two
cabins will be at the far end of the Sky Cabins. They will be called Maple and Walnut. We will add Hawthorn and Mulberry but keep
them alphabetical so the names get switched around a bit. Those cabins have a pretty decent view
towards the lake and all four have a nice big patio area that could fit two
picnic tables.
It’s always difficult to accurately anticipate the growth
from year to year, but our growth has been pretty consistent over the last 8-10
years. So we are planning on more growth
for next summer and also needing more room for staff. The plan is to build what we call
Ironwood. It is basically 4 cabins in
one building, each having a bathroom and a loft. Fundraising is underway for this but had to
move aside for a bit when the new land came up, what a cool story that has
been. So hopefully we can have that up
and running for next summer.
So all that to say, good times here a Shamineau! There are so many things that go into
it. All the volunteer hours, financial
and prayer support. Thank you for your
