THE SUPER CLOSE - VERY REMOTE SHAMINEAU ISLAND
You're looking at our 22 acre island in the middle of Lake Shamineau. While it's only about a mile away from camp by boat, when you are on the island, you might as well be in the middle of the ocean. It feels so remote. In summer, we don't allow technology or even watches, they are on island time! At first, it seems a little strange to some but after about a day, no one even thinks about it. It puts them in a place that truly eliminates many distractions of life to be able to really enjoy God's creation.
Meals on the island are cooked over the fire. Sometimes as a big group at the main fire pit, but many times as a cabin. Each cabin has a nice little fire pit and sitting area around it. It's a great way to just chat about life and whatever else may be going on. A long time island tradition is the bog swim. You can see the water in the middle there... As a group they charge through and take cabin photos on the other side.
The whole feel of the island is much different than main camp. It can only house about 50 with 5 cabins and a lodge. Everyone gets to know each other quickly and they form quite the bond over the week. People from around the lake tell us every once in a while that they love hearing the kids making noise and singing on the point. Most times you could be boating by and just yell "Island!" Almost guaranteed that all the kids will yell "Island!" right back. It's just a thing...
Of course all the craziness is designed for one reason, pointing kids toward Christ. They love it out there! The island has never been as full as it is this summer. We have had Father & Son Island for a few years now and added Father & Daughter Island for this summer. So good stuff happening on our little island. ISLAND!
