CAMP UPDATE: OCT 3
Let's catch you up on what's going on at camp... Summer was amazing. Great staff, record numbers and God worked in so many ways. We built and used 4 new cabins which are also heated and ready to go for fall. Many kids came to know the Lord, a couple even baptized. Great summer!
Because summer was so full, we are adding another week next summer. Week 10. It works well with the calendar next year as well. Also we will be able to open even more island spots by sliding Father & Son Island camps into weekends.
North Ridge... This is the new land we purchased last summer, one square mile. This is incredible - we only have about $87,000 left to pay it off. Between saving what we could and the generosity of you guys, we are almost there and hope to have it paid off by the end of the year. There will be more about that coming soon. Praise God!
Ironwood. This is a 4 cabin building that we have been raising money for. Each cabin will have a bathroom and a loft. Again more coming on that soon. We are almost half way on the fundraising. We will be prepping the site very soon and plan to start construction in spring.
Fall Fling retreats start tomorrow, with 5 in a row. It is exciting to see the growth with that. Our low weekend is 375, our high one is around 550 right now. 375 used to be pushing the full limit but with the expansion of Oak Hollow, more cabins and remodeled cabins that now have heat we are able to fit somewhere around 575. Please lift that up in prayer!
It's starting to cool off here now with that crispy fall air. Leaves are just starting to change. It also just feels like football outside. There will be a lot of that at Fall Flings, just yesterday we were able to get lights up in the ballfield so we can use our really nice grass field at night. Our local youth group meets here at camp and tested it out last night, looked great. Our facilities crew does a great job of juggling 30 things at a time and getting it done!
As early as it might seem, summer registration for 2020 will open November 1st. Mark your calendars for that, and if you want a particular housing for family camp or want to make sure you get into a certain camp week, sign up early. You also get a discount.
Looking forward, we are constantly trying to plan for the future in a very fast growing and fluid camp on top of keeping everything running at an excellent quality. Also, there are 3 main ways you can be involved with Shamineau.
Prayer. This is something anyone can do at any time, and is the most powerful and effective, so please keep us in your prayers. Besides an army of people praying from where they are at, we also have a local prayer team, mostly from a nearby local church that comes every day of summer to pray over camp. That is amazing and we feel it.
Financially. Everyone is at a different spot on this one, some of you aren't in a position to give at all, some can give a lot. Where ever you land on that, we appreciate every dollar and strive to be great stewards with it in everything we do. If you want to give, please follow this link- http://shamineau.org/donate/
Volunteer. We couldn't run this place nearly as well without volunteers. It can be from any skill range too. Of course being a retired home builder is very handy and we very much need that, but we also need people to cut and split wood, deep clean buildings and paint a fresh coat on cabin walls... just need a willing heart. It also could be for a couple hours, or you could come up for a month in the summer if you are in that type of life position. We are currently in the process of creating a new "volunteer village", just on the new property where we will be able to park campers and big rigs of volunteers. Each spot will have a nice place to park, a picnic table and a fire ring. We will have 10 spots to start and would love to need more because of so many volunteers. If you want to explore this, email Larry here.
That's what is going on, thank you for your part in Shamineau! Please share this blog with your friends and family and subscribe if you haven't yet. It's great times at Shamineau!
